GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Please make sure when buying these bulbs that you don’t buy too small a bulb or they won’t flower, they will only throw green leaves. These bulbs are a flowering size bulb
Native to the mediterranean, the poppy-flowered “anemone” is a tender, perennial with showy flowers in spring. Cultivars in the de caen group are distinguished by large, showy, single flowers with 5-8 segments. Borne on calf-high stems above clumps of divided, ferny leaves, the solitary, poppy-like blooms have a dark central disc and a white eye.
Often planted at intervals to provide continual year-round bloom in mild climates. Poppy-flowered anemone can also be used as an early-blooming garden perennial where hardy. The de caen group was introduced about 1870.
“anemone” can also be planted in the spring for summer flowering.
Happiest in a site shaded from hot sun, anemone coronaria prefers rich, loamy soil, even moisture and a dry rest after bloom, or they may be left in permanently, when they will flower annually in spring. This is a good plant for texture and colour in a container, moist woodland, or a rock garden. Flowers for 2-3 weeks and attracts butterflies. The flowers are excellent for cutting. The bulbs are required to be soaked overnight before planting.
Anemones are notoriously difficult to become established and may take a couple of years to do so, so please be patient.
Plant 6-7 cm deep 5-7 cm apart.
