GENERAL DESCRIPTION
“Bergenia Cordifolia” Is A Clump-Forming Rhizomatous (What The Bulb Is Called) Evergreen Perennial With A Spirally Arranged Rosette Of Leaves 6-35 Cm Long And 4-5 Cm Broad And Bell-Shaped Pink Flowers. The Leaves Are Large, Leathery, Ovate Or Cordate And Often Have Wavy Or Saw-Toothed Edges. For Most Of The Year, The Leaves Have A Glossy Green Colour, But In Cooler Climatess, They Turn Red Or Bronze In The Autumn The Flowers Grow On A Stem Similar In Colour To A Rhubarb Stalk And Most Varieties Have Cone-Shaped Flowers In Pink.
Commonly Known As Elephants Ears Because Of Their Large Leathery Leaves “Bergrnia’s” Have Become Fashionable Again. They Are Low-Maintenance, Evergreen And Will Grow In Sun Or Shade And Also Tolerate A Wide Range Of Soils Including Dry Soils And Clay.
“Bergenia Cordifolia” Has Received The Royal Horticultural Society’s Award Of Garden Merit (Agm) Which Is For Plants Of Outstanding Excellence.
