GENERAL DESCRIPTION
“Kaufmanniana Tulips” Are Low-Growing With Long Lasting Flowers And Are Usually One Of The Earliest Of The Spring Bulbs. They Are Also Called Waterlily Tulips Because When Fully Opened On A Very Sunny Day, They Are Flat And Star-Shaped Reminiscent Of Waterlilies. They Do Not Of Course, Live In Water, Nor Even Require Much Watering, Liking Moist Well-Drained Soil When Active And Rather Dry Soil When Dormant. As They Are Small. Plant Them In Drifts, Rather Than Isolated Clumps If Possible.
“Heart’s Delight” Is A Fully Hardy, Perennial, Low Growing, Thrives In Full Sun, Ok In Partial Shade, With Well Drained Soil. These Spring Time Favourites Perform Many Duties In The Garden, But Their Greatest Contribution Is To Bring Bright Colour To Winter Weary Eyes. Borne Singly Or In Small Clusters On Calf-High Stems, They Have Six “Petals” And A Yellow Eye And Are Fragrant. The Grey-Green Lance-Shaped Often Undulating Leaves Are Usually Held Close To The Base Of The Stem.
“Heart’s Delights” Flowers Are A Rich Carmine Red On The Outside Of The Petals, While Aging To Pale Rose On The Interior, With Yellow Heart. On Overcast Days The Flowers Remain Partially Closed So Are Bright Carmine, But On Sunny Days When Open Flat The Paler Interior Dominates.
These Are Some Of The Easiest Bulbs To Grow. They Prefer Full To Part Sun And Require Average Fertile Well Drained Soil. Leave The Lower Foliage Of These Tulips After They Bloom, So They Can Collect And Store Energy For Next Springs Display. Once The Leaves Start To Yellow, Cut Plants To The Ground.
Tulips Are Unsurpassed For Bringing Spring Colour To Containers Or Sunny Gardens. It Is Also Wise To Plant Extra For Cutting As They Make Superb Long-Lasting Cut Flowers. They Are Also Good For Winter Forcing. They Are Ideal For Rock Gardens And Containers. If Left Undisturbed, They Will Normally Return Year After Year And Gradually Multiply.
Plant 10 Cm Deep And 10 Cm Apart In Clumps If Possible.
