GENERAL DESCRIPTION

“Palace Purple Alumroot”, Is An Evergreen Herbaceous Perennial, Grown For Its Mounded Clumps Of Glossy, Greenish-Purple Maple-Like Leaves. The Large Leaves, Which Are Beet-Red On Their Undersides, Retain Their Colour All Year If Given Enough Light. In Summer, Tall Stems Topped With Loose Panicles Of Tiny Greenish, Creamy White Flowers Emerge From Basal Clumps. The Flowers Attract Bees And Hummingbirds. Alumroot Is Native To Western North America, Where It Grows In Fertile But Moist, Well Drained Soil.

“Heuchera Palace Purple” Has Received The Royal Horticultural Society’s Award Of Garden Merit (Agm) Which Is For Plants Of Outstanding Excellence.

“Heuchera Palace Purple” Grows Best In Sites With Part Sun And Fertile, But Well-Drained Soil. It Tolerates Full Sun Only In Cooler Climes; Purple Palace Alumroot Is A Carefree, Long-Lived Perennial With Minimal Maintenance Required. Remove The Flower Stalks When They Finish Blooming. Mulch Annually To Keep The Rootstock Covered And Eventually Lift And Replant The Clump In Early Autumn.

The Alumroot Looks Great When Planted In Masses Beneath Trees, In Mixed Borders, Or Rock Gardens. It Can Also Be Grown As A Groundcover. Both Flowers And Leaves Are Popular With Flower Arrangers For Cutting. Palace Purple Alumroot Was Named The 1991 Perennial Plant Of The Year And Also Shortlisted For The Chelsea Plant Of The Centenary For The Decade 1983-1982.
