GENERAL DESCRIPTION
“Iris Reticulata” Is A Short Lived Perennial From Eastern Europe, Turkey And Iraq That Emerges And Blooms In Early Spring.
Its Showy Flowers Have A Wonderful Fragrance. The Blooms Vary From Pale Blue To Deep Violet With Central Yellow Splashes Down The Middle Of Each Petal. Each Flower Has 6 Petals, The 3 Reflexed Being Called “Falls” The 3 Upright “Standards”
This Delightful Scented Flower Seems To Rise Out Of The Earth With Very Little Foliage And Brave The Snowy Weather. They Bend Their Flowers Right Back So They Look As If They Are Folded Like Starched Napkins.
“Iris Reticulata” Has Received The Royal Horticultural Society’s Award Of Garden Merit (Agm) Which Is For Plants Of Outstanding Excellence.
“Iris Danfordiae” Is Just One Species In The Reticulata Group Of Irises, And A Particularly Memorable One For Its Bright Sunny Colouring, The Vivid Yellow Blooms With Small Green Spots At The Throat Appear Close To The Ground In Early Spring On Ankle-High Stems And Make An Eye-Catching Patch Of Gold To Brighten The Short Days.
The Blooms Have Three Spreading, Arching, Petal-Like Falls, Overtopped By Three Smaller, Petal-Like Arms. The Three Upright Standards Are Reduced To Tiny Bristles. The Falls Are Flecked And The Style Arms Striped With Olive Green. Linear, Four-Sided Leaves Emerge With The Flowers. It Is Said To Carry A Sweet, Honey-Like Perfume.
These Easy To Grow Bulbs Grow Best In Full To Partial Sun, Well-Drained Soils And Reliably Comes Back Year After Year. They Are Also Excellent For Forcing In Pots.
