Lupines Are A Traditional Cottage Garden Perennial Blooming In The Summer. They Are A Legume And Are Related To Beans, Peas, Crob, Peanuts, Honey Locusts, Vetch And Clover, However All Parts Of The Plant Including The Foliage, Flowers, Seeds And Fruits Are Toxic.

LUPINUS 'CHANDELIER” HAVE CHEERFUL SPIRES OF YELLOW, PEA-LIKE FLOWERS, EACH WITH A DARKER STANDARD, APPEAR FROM JUNE TO JULY ABOVE DENSE CLUMPS OF MID-GREEN LEAVES. THIS POPULAR COTTAGE GARDEN PERENNIAL IS PERFECT FOR THE MIDDLE OF A SUNNY BORDER. TO ENCOURAGE A SECOND FLUSH OF FLOWERS IN SEPTEMBER AND PREVENT THE PLANT FROM LOOKING SCRUFFY, DEADHEAD AFTER THE FIRST FLOWERS HAVE FADED.

All Lupines Share The Same Characteristic Leaf Shape. Their Soft Green Leaves Are Divided Into Eight To Sixteen Small, Finger-Like Leaflets That Diverge From A Central Point. They Have Long Fleshy Taproot Similar To Dandelions, With A Few Big Prongs. The Individual Plants Do Not Spread, But As They Get Older And Mature, Their Roots Get Bigger And They Send Up More Flower Stalks. If Spent Flowering Stalks Are Cut Down, Plants May Bloom A Second Time In September.

“LUPINUS CHANDELIER” HAS RECEIVED THE ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S AWARD OF GARDEN MERIT (AGM) WHICH IS FOR PLANTS OF OUTSTANDING EXCELLENCE

They Are Very Dramatic When Planted In Bold Drifts In The Border, On Banks And Hillsides, Or Naturalised In Woodlands And Partially Shaded Corners. Plants May Require Staking And Should Be Grown In A Position Sheltered From The Wind. Their Bold Blooms Also Make An Excellent Cut Flower
