Red Riding Hood is low-growing with long lasting bright red flowers and a black basal blotch inside, and 3-5 variegated leaves that are heavily streaked with brown-purple. Flowers bloom on 6-10 inch stems.
Red Riding Hood is a typical instance of a vividly coloured and large-flowered dwarf hybrid with variegated leaves, perfect for planting in rock gardens and at the front of borders.
Red Riding Hood has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (agm) which is for plants of outstanding excellence.
These are some of the easiest bulbs to grow. They prefer full to part sun and require average fertile well drained soil. Leave the lower foliage of these tulips after they bloom, so they can collect and store energy for next springs display. Once the leaves start to yellow, cut plants to the ground.
Greigii hybrids are more robust than many other Tulips and may be left permanently in the ground to multiply. This small very striking tulip is effective in small groupings of at least 12-15 bulbs or massed into large drifts the variegated leaves provide continuing interest after bloom.
Plant 10cm deep and 10cm apart.
