Whether You Know Them As Beebalm, Oswego Tea, Wild Bergamot Or Cambridge Scarlet, This Carefree Perennial Is Easy To Grow In Beds, Borders And Meadow Gardens; They Are A Favourite Of Butterflies And Bees Who Will Come While They Are In Flower.
“Cambridge Scarlet” Makes A Nice Addition To The Garden. In Summer This Hardy Herbaceous Perennial Produces Fragrant Tubular Flowers In Frilly Starburst Heads That Perch Atop Strong Upright Stems. Beneath Each Head Is A Conspicuois Ruff Of Maroon Bracts (A Type Of Leaf That Grows From A Stem Where The Flower Develops) The Paired Narrowly Oval Leaves Have A Pungent Scent That’s Pleasant To Humans But Undesirable To Browsing Pests Like Deer And Rodents.
“Monarda Cambridge Scarlet” Has Received The Royal Horticultural Society’s Award Of Garden Merit (Agm) Which Is For Plants Of Outstanding Excellence.
The Monarda Prefers Full Sun To Part Shade And Moist Well-Drained Humus Rich Soil. It Is A Good Perennial For Sunny Borders And Wildlife Gardens, Teaming Well With Other Perennials Like Echinacea And Liatris. Good Air Circulation And Regular Watering Will Help Deter Mildew. It Wanders Via Vigorous Thin Rhisomes, So Requires Dividing Every Two Years Or So. Deadhead To Encourage Continued Bloom And Prevent Self-Sowing.
