“Scilla Siberica” (Siberian Squill) Is A Charming, Small Bulbous Perennial That’s Among The Earliest Of Spring Blooming Plants. This Sweet Blue-Flowered Plant Originates From Russia And Western Asia And Naturalises Readily In Wooded Areas, Because It Blooms And Disappears Into Dormancy Before Most Deciduous Trees And Shrubs Leaf Out To Block Out The Sun.

“Scilla Siberica” Has Received The Royal Horticultural Society’s Award Of Garden Merit (Agm) Which Is For Plants Of Outstanding Excellence

This Small Bulb Appears In Spring, Just After The Snowdrops And Winter Aconites. Each Sends Up Two To Four Semi-Erect Leaves And Thin Flower Stems That Branch At The Tips To Display Four Or Five Pendant Bell-Shaped Blue Flowers. The Gentian-Blue Flowers Of Each Bloom Has A Darker Stripe Down The Centre Of Each Petal On The Underside.

The Small Blooms Have Six Petals And Are Like Manna To Hungry Foraging Bees. Just A Few Nodding Open Bells Have The Ability To Self Seed Into Unexpected Cracks And Crevices. Once The Flowers Are Spent They Self Seed And Quickly Retreat Into The Ground For The Rest Of The Growing Season. Their Dying Foliage Can Easily Be Raked Away For Quick Clean Up.

Plant This Squill In Woodland Setting At The Edge Of Trees And Hedges Or Liberally In Grass In Moist Soil. It Is A Fast Spreader But Does Not Compete With Other Garden Plants, So Is Not Considered Invasive. A Small Planting Can Quickly Double In Size Within A Few Years. For Maximum Appeal, Plant Siberian Squill Among Other Spring Bloomers Like Crocus And Early Daffodils. It Also Looks Super Planted With Blue-Flowered Gems Like Anemone Blanda Blue Shades And Chionodoxa Forbesii.

In Autumn Plant The Bulbs 7-10 Cms Deep.
